The Plot Point
The character considers his/her motivations and decides to embark on the adventure. There is generally someone listening to the hero, either trying to talk him/her out of it, or giving useful advice and information (or an object). This is an opportunity for the hero to express his/her motivation.
The hero doesn’t always decide to act. Sometimes events or orders force him/her to react. This leads the hero to wonder about what he/she is doing and why (motivations).
EXERCISE 26 If you have already presented the hero in context and established the situation he/she is faced with, put yourself “in his/her shoes” and define the hero’s motivations according to what is at stake.
HELP This scene is generally very short. It can be an opportunity to give extra information and to announce upcoming complications.
This scene is also the moment your hero can say what he/she will do first. This leads us on to the next scene, and adds to the impact of your account.
